House Inspiration: J. Crew’s Frank Muytjens
J. Crew’s head of men’s design, Frank Muytjens, opens to ELLE Decor his snug, two-bedroom house in New York, which measures only slightly larger than 600 square feet. I find it inspirational for someone whose house is the same size as Frank’s to use it as a great example for what can be accomplished in a small area. I like the mix of styles – the vintage and beat-up industrial look in a clean and sophisticated space. And this place reflects a perfect harmony of just that.
Start the envy-fest with his closet
The kitchen’s custom-made countertops are concrete, and the light fixtures and drafting stools are vintage.
Living-room: beat-up industrial metal stools, clean-lined Marcel Breuer armchairs, and mementos of the natural world, including turtle shells, antlers, and vases of dried allium
I personally love this style: vintage oak chairs and stools surround a table made from barn wood
Master bedroom: motley assortment of objects and furniture, chosen for their timeworn patina and aesthetic appeal
